After living full-time on the road for 4 years can you believe we’ve never been to Key West? In year one it was on our bucket list but truth be told, we cancelled our reservations due to work (and we were also a little scared of taking a 45′ rig down to what seemed like an impossibly small place for that size rig).

We finally found the time and what a great time! We highly recommend adding Key West to your RV Adventure bucket list. Key West packs more fun things to do per square mile in that just about anywhere in the country (NYC gives anywhere a run for its money but that’s a post for another time).

In this video we take our 2015 Entegra Aspire down to El Mar RV Resort in Key West (Stock Island) staying just a few miles from the world-famous Duval Street. The video says just about everything but here are some helpful links to items mentioned in the video. Questions? Leave us a comment below and we’ll get right back to you!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at El Mar RV Resort, on Stock Island which is part of Key West. El Mar RV Resort is small, with only 9-10 sites in total but they are extremely spacious. If you like quiet and a lot of space, there is no better place to stay in Key West. For those looking for a little more adventure we recommend Boyd’s Campground which is an extremely well run (but tightly spaced) RV park located just across the street from El Mar.

Boyd’s has a lot more action, laundry, a pool, and a store on site while EL Mar gives the feeling that your staying at a private waterfront beach-house with friends. They both are awesome, just depends what you’re in the mood for!

Palm Beach Motorcoach Resort

Before we headed south to Key West we stayed at Palm Beach Motorcoach Resort. This place is a gem, not just because the property is amazing but because it is one of the most friendly and well run parks in the COUNTRY! Seriously its amazing.

They accept Super C’s and Class A’s only though, but no age restrictions if your coach is in good condition. Sorry to our friends with 5th wheels but don’t worry all of the Key West parks are bumper pull and 5th wheel friendly!

Checkout the RVLove Remodel Series

Make sure to checkout the RVLove remodel series. It’s absolutely amazing and incredibly produced for a web show. You won’t regret it.

Series Starts Here

Thinks To Do

There are plenty of “Things to Do” posts out there talking about key west so we decided to pick a few less talked about items that we had a ton of fun doing while in Key West. Below are links to each of the activities in our video adventure.

If you’ve watched our channel you probably know we didn’t buy our RV from National Indoor RV Centers (“NIRVC”) however we do have a unique perspective on this dealership. We met the NIRVC team when filming the TV Show “Going RV” which we filmed at their Atlanta location. During that visit we met Bret Davis, the CEO and owner of NIRVC and that is when we knew we had stumbled upon something special in an industry filled with poor quality dealerships and service experiences.

In the above video we detail our experience with the dealership and highlight the dealerships newest location in Phoenix, Arizona.

Unique facts about NIRVC Phoenix

Since we have a personal relationship with the GM at the Phoenix location (we purchased our coach from him at another dealership back in 2015) and we have visited this location a few times we want to tell you a few unique facts about this particular dealership. Since this dealership is the newest, just opening in the last year, it is smaller than their Dallas and Atlanta locations. While this prevents them from having storage (coming soon) it has the side benefit of letting you really get to know the staff and provides a more intimate buying experience than most larger dealerships. If you are interested in learning more you can call the GM (Robert “Cowboy” Langley) directly on his cell at 817.774.3476. Tell him Livinlite.net sent you!

Locations and Services by location

Currently, NIRVC has 3 locations in Atlanta Georgia, Dallas, TX, and Phoenix, AZ. Address listed below.

Atlanta, GA

1350 Hurrican Shoals Rd. NE

Lawrenceville, GA 30043

770-979-4051

(Sales, Service, Storage, Wash, Paint & Body)

Dallas, TX

498 E State Hwy

121 Lewisville, TX 75057

469-277-1330

(Sales, Service, Storage, Wash, Paint & Body)

Phoenix, AZ

22425 N 16th St.

Suite 3

Phoenix, AZ 85024

(Sales, Service, Wash)

Brands sold by location

Atlanta, GA

Carado

Entegra Coach

Forester by Forest River

Newmar

Pleasure-Way

RoadTrek

THOR Motor Coach

Dallas, TX

Forester by Forest River

Newmar

RoadTrek

Phoenix, AZ

Coachman Recreational Vehicles

Entegra Coach

Jayco

Why you ask are different brands sold at different locations? Each dealership needs to be licensed in every single state to sell. Hence why you will find Newmar coaches at their Atlanta location and not in the Phoenix.

Services offered

The following Services are offered at the NIRVC locations. Except for Phoenix, they yet to have storage but this should be coming soon.

storage

service

sales

wash

How to Get In Touch

If you are interested in learning more you can call the Phoenix GM (Robert “Cowboy” Langley) directly on his cell at 817.774.3476. Tell him Livinlite.net sent you! Even if you are looking at another location start with Cowboy and he’ll point you in the right direction and give you a warm introduction to someone at one of their other locations.

While visiting our friends at National Indoor RV in Phoenix our good friend, and RV technical master (Steve!), invited us to join him on a tour of a World War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress named “Aluminum Overcast” (Technically a B-17G). This aircraft is an amazing piece of history and has been meticulously restored by the Experimental Aircraft Association or EAA as they are know. Just under 13,000 of these amazing aircrafts were ever built by Boeing and only 39 remain in the United States today. The B-17 is quite an amazing piece of history, but flying inside was no luxury. With no heat and temperatures often well below freezing, brave veterans not only risked their lives to win the war, but did so under quite unpleasant conditions.

Experimental Aircraft Association

The EAA flies this and other aircraft all over the country providing normal folks like us the opportunity to tour this amazing piece of history. Ground tours are $10.00 per person ($20.00 for a family) and kids under 8 years old are free. What we really enjoyed was that the tours were staffed by actual veterans. They were so friendly and willing to share their knowledge about this amazing plane and its history and significance to the war effort.

If you’d like to take the experience to the next level, you can also go on a flight tour in this amazing aircraft. That privilege will set you back $449.00 (less if you are an EAA member) but that truly is a once in a lifetime experience.

Plan Your Own Tour

More information on where the EAA and the B-17 will be can be found at their website located here.

Ground Tours
2-5 p.m. (unless noted), weather permitting
$10: Individual Rate
$20: Family Rate (adults/children up to 17)
Free: Children under 8 (with paying adult)
Free: Veterans / Active Military

Mission Flights (weather permitting)

While traveling north from Homestead, Florida to Daytona Beach we stumbled upon this cute little boondocking spot in Fort Pierce, Florida that is a part of Harvest Hosts. Summer Crush Winery is much more than your traditional winery. First of, we’ve never heard of traditional wines coming out of Florida so we were intrigued but more on that below. Summer Crush Winery has an amazing campus with a beautiful lake and events venue overlooking the water and surrounding vineyard. They have free, live music almost every weekend during peak winter months and also offer an evening concert series that features some really awesome bands. During our visit CSNsongs was featured and they got the place rocking!

Is it Really Free?

Camping is actually free (well you need a Harvest Hosts membership that is around $50.00 per year). Tickets to the concert series vary, we paid $25.00 per person and had spacious assigned seating and access to a full dinner buffet for an additional $14 dollars per person. Camping for a second night will cost you either $10.00 or you can spend $25.00 or more in the shop and stay another night for free. Details are available on the Harvest Hosts website.

Muscadine Grape?

As expected, its virtually impossible to grow traditional vine grapes in Fort Pierce. The heat, sand and humidity make it a very inhospitable place for most wine grapes. That didn’t stop Summer Crush which found it’s niche creating wines using the Red Muscadine and White Muscadine grape. We aren’t wine experts, not even close, but the Muscadine grape is sweet and lends itself to making sweater wines that can be great for sangrias and summer cocktails, especially in the Florida heat. Summer Crush has some tricks up it’s sleeve for those of you who like more of a dry or oaky finish as well!

Booking – What is Harvest Hosts?

For those of you that don’t know about Harvest Hosts, its a network of vineyards, wineries, breweries and special events venues that allow 24-hour overnight parking for RV’ers. For more details checkout our Detailed Harvest Host Article. You can contact Summer Crush directly by visiting their website here.

Glamping? What is that?

Glamping or glamour camping is a slang term used to describe some of today’s most luxurious motorcoaches and RV’s. As well as a term loosely used to describe resorts that cater to guests that are interested in staying out of a traditional building or hotel structure while bringing all of the creature comforts of home along with them.

What Exactly is a Motorcoach Resort?

There isn’t an exact definition but for the most part a motorcoach resort is a high end RV resort with amenities similar to a 3 or 4 star hotel. In most cases these motorcoach resorts only allow Class A motorhomes and usually have restrictions on the age of the coach you bring. Many motorcoach resorts are similar to condominiums in that spots are owned by members rather than rented.

For the most part, motorcoach resorts are open to the public as many owners wish to rent their RV spots when they are not using them to recoup some of their investments. Amenities typically include an onsite club house, gym, swimming pool, spa, luxury bathrooms and private showers, bar, game rooms and more. Some resorts even have attached golf courses and marinas where you can park your boat right next to your coach.

How Much is a Motorcoach Resort Stay?

Hold on to your hats folks, these places are not cheap but looking on the bright side, they are cheaper than just about any 4 or 5 star hotel that’s for sure! A single night stay at a motorcoach resort like Palm Beach Motorcoach will set you back between $80.00-150.00 per night. Most parks have weekly and monthly discounts that can bring that price down considerably but think of this as a “vacation” not something most of us can do every day.

What About Buying a Spot?

Buying a spot at a prestige motorcoach resort can be as expensive as buying a house! Spots at Palm Beach Motorcoach (which just recently opened) range from $160,000 t0 almost $300,000. What is really interesting is how absolutely massive the price can range from seller to seller. If you find a resort that has spots for sale from existing members, there are absolutely deals out there, especially for those looking to sell quickly. We’ve seen amazing spots on the Pacific Coastal cliffs of Oregon overlooking the ocean for as little as $50,000. Of course if you are willing to sacrifice the view then deals are absolutely there to be had!

If you choose to look into ownership, make sure you consider property taxes, common charges and any other fees that the associations may charge as part of the sale. Always do your research.
